Biography

Farhana Satu devotes as a Photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She attended University of London (UK) for her LLB-Hons and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute (Bangladesh) and Danish School of Media and Journalism (Denmark) for her Diploma in Professional Photography.

Her work focuses to bring stories to light which might have been overlooked or taken for granted by the casual witnesses. She is well-versed in developing relationship with her subjects of photograph to understand and connect in more humanely presence.

Farhana’s photos have been widely published and featured in various online and printed publications both national and internationally, including The Guardian, Fast forward women in photography, Photo fem, The daily star, The Prothom Alo, etc. She participated in various photo festivals, workshops, group and solo exhibitions. Recently she had another solo exhibition named ‘Voices from the shadows at Dhaka, Bangladesh.

She achieved lots of prestigious national and international awards and grants. Such as Fritt Ord Student Grant, Women photograph and Getty image grant, Covid19 emergency Grant, Angkor Creation grant etc. She was the finalist for Alexia student grant twice.

She was the champion of Break the Circle award, SUPA, Sony Alpha Out of the box award, IPA etc.

Recently she became the winner of Magnum Heat Fellowship and Grant 2023 and also, She is showing her photo story in NGV Triennial 2024, at National Gallery of Victoria, Australia.
